Hoeganaes invests heavily in production expansion programs to guarantee a global supply of ferrous metal powders ahead of market demand. For example, the company invested over $100 million in its Gallatin, Tennessee, facility during the 1990’s—including the addition of nine annealing furnaces. Now, with a total of 12 annealing lines, Gallatin is the world’s largest producer of atomized ferrous metal powders. The company has the capability to manufacture 340,000 metric tons of iron and steel powders—approximately seven times its capacity in 1980.

PM’s dramatic growth can be traced to the introduction of Hoeganaes’ ANCORBOND® process in 1989 that allows for engineered binder-treated, press-ready premixes. Significant new products produced by this technology enable fabricators to manufacture parts with higher densities, greater strength, enhanced dimensional stability, and with more complex geometries than ever before.
