Michael F Molnar, Director – Advanced Manufacturing National Program Office, Chief Manufacturing Officer -National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), United States Department of Commerce, will deliver a presentation entitled “US Manufacturing: More Important Now than Ever” at the conference Opening General Session, on Tuesday, June 25.

Molnar is responsible for NNMI planning and coordination of manufacturing research and services programs, and serves White House, the Department of Commerce, and other US agencies on technical and policy issues related to manufacturing.

In his presentation, Molnar will explore the design of manufacturing institute “hubs,” as nodes of the proposed NNMI, as a means to accelerate US innovation. As announced by the US President, NNMI is a network of industry-led manufacturing institutes, each chartered in a competitively selected topic. The pilot manufacturing institute is in the area of additive manufacturing, or direct manufacturing, which has the potential to usher in a third digitally-enabled “manufacturing revolution.”
