The Tantalum-Niobium International Study Center (TIC) is celebrating its 50th year as a trade association serving the tantalum and niobium industries. Over this time, leaders in these industries have met at the TIC’s annual General Assembly to discuss and present technical innovations and industry trends and contract their supply for the following year and beyond.

To mark its 50th anniversary, this year’s TIC General Assembly and Technical Conference will be held in Tokyo, Japan, September 8-11, 2024, hosted by its Platinum Sponsor, JX Metals Corporation, the parent company of Taniobis GmbH. Following the General Assembly and conference presentations, delegates will have the opportunity to join a tour of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

In addition to the above, the TIC awards ‘The Anders Gustav Prize for Innovation in Tantalum’ annually. The Prize is named after the discoverer of tantalum and is awarded to the lead author(s) of a published paper or patent that is judged by an independent panel of experts to have made the greatest contribution to understanding the processing, properties or applications of tantalum.

The focus of the award alternates each year between commercial and R&D innovations. This year, the prize will focus on R&D, and the winner will be announced at the General Assembly. More information on submitting entries can be found here.
