GKN Sinter Metals has announced that Powder Metallurgy components manufactured by the company are used in three of the top ten engines named in Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2013 awards.
GKN Sinter Metals supplies components for the Chrysler 3.6-liter Pentastar DOHC V-6 (Ram 1500), General Motors 2.0-litre Turbocharged DOHC I-4 (Cadillac ATS), and Honda 3.5-litre SOHC V-6 (Honda Accord). These engines contain a number of PM parts including main bearing caps, variable valve timing components, and connecting rods.
“GKN Sinter Metals would like to congratulate all the winners of this year’s award. It highlights the advancements taking place in engine technology. GKN is pleased to supply products to support these advancements using new innovations in Powder Metallurgy,” stated Stuart Greidanus, Senior Vice-President, Global Sales and Marketing.
Ward’s 10 Best engines awards were presented by WardsAuto World at the North America International Auto Show on January 16th 2013. Engines eligible for the award must be available in production for US vehicles with a price below $55,000, no later than the first quarter of 2013.
GKN Sinter Metals receives three GM Supplier Quality Excellence awards
Three Supplier Quality Excellence awards from General Motors (GM) Powertrain were also recently awarded to GKN Sinter Metals. The achievement means GKN Sinter Metals is within the top 2% of all GM Powertrain suppliers in North America.
The awards, received at the ‘GM Supplier Quality Excellence’ awards ceremony at GM Powertrain’s headquarters in Pontiac, Michigan, USA, were given to GKN Sinter Metals Emporium Automotive (PA), Manitowoc, WI, and Conover, NC locations.
GKN Sinter Metals supplies a range of powertrain products from these three locations to General Motors. Emporium Automotive provides GM with clutch plates and connecting rods; Manitowoc delivers main bearing caps; and Conover builds aluminium camshaft caps for a number of engine programs at GM.
Bob Willig, President of GKN Sinter Metals Americas Operations, stated “This recognition by General Motors shows the commitment of our dedicated employees to deliver quality products, and emphasizes our goal to provide leading technology that helps move the world.”
The award recognizes GM suppliers who have demonstrated the highest levels of quality performance over the previous 12 months and winners must meet or exceed a stringent set of quality performance criteria along with cross-functional support of the entire GM organization.
