New name for German GKSS research centre
February 11, 2011
German research centre GKSS, with sites in Geesthacht and Teltow, has changed its name to Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Zentrum für Material und Küstenforschung GmbH (Centre for Materials and Coastal Research). The new name intends to show the connection with the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and the city of Geesthacht.
“With our new name, we are making it clear what we stand for,” stated scientific director, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kaysser. “We have been well positioned in the field of material research and coastal research for several years.”
Around 800 employees work at locations in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and Teltow, near Berlin. The Institute of Materials Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht Research Centre in Geesthacht employs some 160 in the four divisions of “Material Mechanics”, “Materials Physics”, “Materials Technology” and “Magnesium Innovation Center MagIC”.
