The 2010 Powder Metallurgy World Congress and Exhibition took place in Florence last week. Organised by the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA), the event attracted more than 1300 participants from some 49 countries in all regions, including the Far East, Africa and the Americas. A comprehensive technical programme featured nearly 500 oral and poster presentations.

The event also featured one of the largest PM exhibitions seen in Europe for many years, with 130 stands covering companies from all parts of the PM supply chain. Initial feedback from exhibitors suggests that PM producers are once again investing in production equipment, following a difficult period for the industry.

As expected, the historic city of Florence provided a spectacular backdrop to the event, and the organisers made full use of what the city had to offer with a series of memorable social events, culminating in a Gala Dinner at the Palazzo Corsini. The venue, with its wonderful views of the River Arno, provided a suitable finale to a dynamic and productive conference and exhibition.

PM Industry Awards

During the congress a series of awards were presented for innovative PM production technology, materials and PM components. Distinguished Service and Thesis awards were also presented. Full reviews of technical sessions, award presentations and exhibition news will appear in future editions of the ipmd.net enewsletter.

The next PM World Congress will take place in Yokahama, Japan, 14-18 October 2012 – www.pm2012.jp
