SCM Metal Products, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of non-ferrous metal powder and copper brazing paste headquartered in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA, with plants in Research Triangle Park, NC, and in Suzhou, China. The company’s products are marketed worldwide through direct sales and distributors located in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Company history

000939The foundation of SCM Metal Products, Inc. as a metal powder producer can be traced back to the Glidden Metals Company which in the early 1930’s began to produce copper powder for the then emerging industrial use of self-lubricating bronze bearings. In 1967 The Glidden Metals Company merged with Smith-Corona Marchant, (SCM) a typewriter manufacturer, and the company over the years changed its name from Glidden Metals to become known as SCM Metal Products, Inc. In 2005 SCM Metal Products expanded its production base in the growing Asian market by establishing SCM Metal Products (Suzhou) Co., Ltd, a copper and copper alloy powder facility in Suzhou, China.

SCM offers a broad variety of non-ferrous powder and Cubond® copper-based brazing paste for industrial or commercial applications.

These product offerings include:

  • Copper powder: Oxide reduced – Water Atomized – Electrolytic
  • Bronze pre-mixed or bronze pre-alloyed powder for bearing or structural P/M parts
  • Infiltration powder and paste for ferrous P/M parts
