Miba Sinter Group: Adapting to a changing automotive industry

Miba AG is one of Austria’s leading industrial and technology companies. The company specialises in engine bearings, friction materials, sintered components and coatings, with its products being found in passenger vehicles, trucks, construction machinery, trains, ships, aircraft and power plants.

In the Spring 2018 edition of Powder Metallurgy Review, we report on a recent visit to Miba Sinter Group at the company’s PM division in Vorchdorf, Austria, and highlight how a company founded in 1927 is adapting to the rapidly changing automotive industry in 2018.

Founded in Upper Austria, Miba AG now manufactures its products at twenty-two sites in eleven countries. The article looks back at the history of this leading PM company, identifying the technical and business milestones which have enabled it to grow and expand globally.

From improving engine noise behaviour through PM gears, to improving cost efficiency through VVT components and sprockets, and optimising machinability using PM materials, Miba addresses both the challenges and growth potential offered by the changing international automotive industry.
