The VDI Transmission Congress ‘Dritev – Drivetrain for Vehicles 2019’, organised by VDI Wissenforum GmbH, is now running in Bonn, Germany, July 10-11, 2019. The congress is set to address current developments and challenges in the vehicle drivetrain industry, from electrification to Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH).

Powder Metallurgy Review is exhibiting at the show on booth 129. Visit us to pick up your free print copies of PM Review, PIM International and Metal Additive Manufacturing magazine, and speak to our team about the range of automotive applications in the PM industry.

Comprising a programme of lectures and parallel events, the show is expected to host more than 1,500 developers, around 100 international exhibitors and 80 specialist speakers, making it what is believed to be one of the largest networking platforms for automotive powertrain and transmission development.

Noise Vibration Harshness will be a special thematic focus at Dritev 2019. NVH refers to both audible and tactile vibrations in motor vehicles in the range from 20–100 Hz, and Dritev will showcase how innovative analysis techniques can be used to identify and reduce these vibrations. Another special topic will be the increase in powertrain power density, and the use of new materials and procedures to aid with this development.

Other topics up for discussion during the congress will be:

  • Current and future requirements on the transmission and powertrain
  • Future-oriented drive systems and transmission concepts in passenger cars and commercial vehicles
  • Challenges in integration into the vehicles and transmission controls
  • Transmission components, lubricants and tribology
  • Innovative materials and development methods
  • Potentials for optimisation transmission manufacturing

At the accompanying VDI specialist conference ‘Powertrain Solutions for Commercial Vehicles’, numerous powertrain development experts from Germany and abroad will to discuss drive and transmission concepts, market development and possible operating strategies. In addition, the international VDI conference’ EDrive’ will run parallel to Dritev, providing an in-depth look at the systemic and component-related development of electrified powertrains.

Powder Metallurgy:The original net-shape production process

Powder Metallurgy components are relied upon by a wide variety of manufacturing industries, from automotive to power tools, household appliances, chemical engineering, filtration and more.

The main reason for the technology’s success is its cost-effectiveness at producing high volumes of net-shape components, combined with its ability to allow the manufacture of products that, because of the production processes, simply cannot be manufactured by other methods.
