Sumitomo Electric Sintered Alloy opens its new PM Engineering Centre in Okayama

Sumitomo Electric Sintered Alloy Ltd. (OSS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., has established a new Powder Metallurgy Engineering Centre (PMEC) at its main plant in Okayama, Japan. An inauguration ceremony took place on May 9 2013.
Sumitomo Electric stated that the establishment of the 3000m2 centre is part of a strategy to further strengthen its product and material evaluation capabilities. PMEC is just one of its global core technology centres and features product and material evaluation equipment, product display spaces and education/training rooms. The company states that PMEC is one of the largest technical centres in the field of PM.
“This new facility will appeal Sumitomo Electric Group’s technological capabilities and strong user support system to conventional and potential customers, thereby contributing to further expansion of our sintered products business.” stated the company. The total investment made in the centre is approx. ¥500 million.
Under a business structure in which Sumitomo Electric is responsible for business planning and sales, and OSS on development and production, the Sumitomo Electric Group operates its sintered product business both in Japan and overseas, including North America, Europe and Asia.
