Safe handling of titanium powder covered in new report
April 20, 2016
A new report featured in the latest issue of Metal AM magazine, published by Inovar Communications Ltd, looks in detail at the safe handling of titanium powders. Although predominantly discussing the handling of powders for the Additive Manufacturing process, the report contains useful information for the handling of these powders for other manufacturing processes.
In the report, Dr Andrew Heidloff and Dr Joel Rieken, from Praxair Surface Technologies, Inc., review best practice when handling and storing titanium powders. The authors state that titanium powder can be safely produced, processed, stored and shipped using appropriate precautions, however under certain conditions it can become quite hazardous. These hazards can be mitigated by following the suggested precautions reviewed in the report.
