Phase II of EPMA’s “SIMU-CRACK” hardmetal fatigue simulation project announced
March 19, 2013
After the successful completion of the first phase of the “SIMU-CRACK” project on “Simulation of Fatigue Crack Growth in Hardmetal at a Mesoscopic Scale” the EPMA is to launch, together with IWM Aachen and CIEFMA UPC Barcelona, a new project on this topic called “SIMU-CRACK Phase II”.
The proposed stage II of the project follows two objectives:
- To demonstrate that fatigue crack propagation through the microstructure of hardmetal can be numerically simulated with a numerical model using the finite element method.
- To develop models able to do a qualitative prediction of crack path (on the basis of experimentally observed crack – microstructure interaction) under cyclic loading.
The project is open to all EPMA corporate members, even if they have not participated in the first phase of the project.
