MPIF to run a virtual Basic PM Short Course

June 15, 2020

The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF)’s Basic PM Short Course 2020, originally scheduled to take place at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College, Pennsylvania, USA, August 10–12, 2020, will now run as a virtual course for the first time in its fifty-five year history.

The three-day course provides a complete introduction to Powder Metallurgy, from powder production to component design and standards. As well as press and sinter PM, processes covered on the course include Metal Injection Moulding (MIM) and metal Additive Manufacturing.

This year’s programme will focus on:

  • PM history, current practice, and the future
  • Why PM is a leading method for producing metal parts
  • The many applications that use PM parts
  • The fine points in designing for PM
  • How metal powders are produced
  • Designs for compacting tools
  • How sintering develops functional properties
  • About various secondary operations
  • About the MPIF standards and tests
  • About Metal Injection Molding
  • The latest high-tech PM technologies, including metal Additive Manufacturing

The intensive course is designed for anyone who is either new to the Powder Metallurgy industry or looking to broaden their knowledge of the technology. The course will not only appeal to engineers, designers and metallurgists but also purchasing agents, managers and office personnel.

An early registration discount is available until July 8, 2020. Further information and registration details are available via the organisation’s website.
