The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has announced the FEV Benchmarking Teardown Workshop, scheduled to take place in Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, on November 21, 2024. FEV Vehicle Benchmarking, headquartered in Aachen, Germany, has a long history and deep know-how within powertrain benchmarking covering conventional powertrains, combustion engines (ICE) and transmissions, electrified (EV) drivetrains, and fuel cell (FC) systems.

The FEV team will utilise its benchmark studies to help the workshop participants understand future powertrain solutions. During the workshop, FEV will discuss new designs, cost-reduction ideas, and product opportunities.

The event includes:

  • Classroom-style sessions studying battery, hybrid, ICE, and fuel cell powertrain technologies
  • Hands-on sessions examining the components of battery, hybrid, ICE, and fuel cell powertrain technologies
  • FEV powertrain technology forecasts 2025 through 2040, identifying which powertrain technologies will shrink, evolve, and dominate the industry
  • Light-duty and on-highway commercial vehicles (Class 8)

Hands-On Workshop

  • Two, 1.5 hour sessions will be held following the respective technology classroom overview sessions
  • An overview of the displayed technology, identifying current PM parts & parts which potentially can be considered for PM
  • During each session, attendees will have approximately 30 minutes to review parts on their own and ask questions
  • Parts are tagged with names and numbers which can be used for future follow-up reference with FEV

    • High Level Powertrain Forecast Overview (US, Europe, China) – Light-Duty (LD) + Commercial Vehicle (CV)
    • Conventional Powertrain Architecture, Light-Duty + Commercial Vehicle
  • Conventional Technology Hardware Review
  • Hands-On Workshop to review displayed PT technology components
  • Electrified and FCEV Technology Architecture, LD + CV
    • EV+ FC Technology Hardware Review
  • Hands-On Workshop to review displayed EV & FC technology components
  • MPIF Partnership Benchmark and Report Opportunities
