HT-MX Tratamientos Secundarios, a NADCAP-certified heat treatment company based in Chihuahua, Mexico, has entered the Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) market by investing in a QIH 48 M URC press manufactured by Quintus Technologies, Västerås, Sweden.
HT-MX specialises in heat treatment and metallurgical laboratory services for the aerospace and automotive markets, and states that it is the first company in Mexico to invest in a HIP system.
“When getting into new projects with, for us, unknown technologies, it’s important to minimise any perceived risk,” stated Humberto Ramos Fernandez, CEO at HT-MX. “And having the world’s leader as your equipment supplier certainly helps with that. For our kind of operation, we are looking for quality, safety, efficiency, and easy maintenance.”
The QIH 48 M URC press incorporates proprietary uniform rapid cooling feature that combines HIP and heat treatment in a single process. The press provides a hot zone measuring 375 mm (4.8 inches) in diameter and 1200 mm (47.2 inches) in height and operates at a temperature of 1400°C (2550°F) and a pressure of up to 2070 bar (30,000 psi).
“With the press from Quintus we have found that it meets our needs so far. We’re still early in our HIP career, but we look forward to continue supplying our customers with high-quality HIP processes via Quintus equipment for years to come,” Ramos Fernández added. “This is a project we have been studying for a while now. Quintus Technologies has been very helpful during the sales process and also during the installation process. It is a complex, high-tech piece of equipment, and it gives me some peace of mind knowing that our supplier is there to back us up.”
HT-MX’sThe HIP system investment reportedly also included gas storage, NADCAP hardware, and a long-term Quintus® Care programme as part of the order. “For us, to be able to offer Quintus Care to new customers is so important, especially when it’s in a new market,” stated Jan Söderström, CEO of Quintus Technologies. “We’re happy to be able to offer our comprehensive service solution to help HT-MX provide the best HIP experience for its clients.”
