Japan’s cemented carbide producers report solid growth in 2014

According to figures published by the Japan Cemented Carbide Tool Manufactures Association (JCTMA) its 37 manufacturing members increased production of cemented carbides (hardmetals) and related tools in tonnage terms by 9.2% to 5,862 tonnes in the 12 months ending December 2014.
The sales value of carbide tools increased to Yen 334,812 billion ($2.822 billion), representing a rise of 9.8% compared with the same period in 2013. Cemented carbide cutting tools made up around 75% of sales followed by abrasive tools (11.6%) and sintered bodies and tools at 8.2%. The remainder is made up of mining and civil engineering and other tools.
