Honda has announced the establishment of a new technical centre at its Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) site in Manesar, India.

Traditionally, Honda R&D operates as separate entities across all motorcycle, automobile & power product divisions globally. The new technical centre is, however, a first step by Honda towards a new form of global operations.

In a first for the company, the technical centre combines an integrated system of DEBQ (Design, Engineering, BOP/Purchasing and Quality) under one roof to create an operating system that advances local development of higher quality products at lower cost.

Spread over 10,000 m2 in the HMSI Manesar facility, the technical centre will employ around 200 engineers from Honda Research & Development India (HRID) and HMSI associates.

The new technical centre also houses an advanced wind tunnel facility which simulates real world air flow situations to monitor aerodynamics.

In 2012 India manufactured around 15.3 million two-wheelers.
