Hanrui Cobalt subsidiary Metal Mines SARL trains its suppliers on responsible cobalt
April 30, 2018
Metal Mines SARL, D.R. Congo, a subsidiary of China’s Nanjing Hanrui Cobalt Co., Ltd, is reported to have offered training to more than 80% of its cobalt suppliers on responsible cobalt supply chain due diligence. The training, based on Chinese Due Diligence Guidelines for Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, took place in March 2018.
During the sessions, Metal Mines Sarl re-emphasised its Suppliers’ Code of Conduct and its commitment that the company will reject any cobalt material which is sourced using child labour. The training sessions also covered the potential risks to adults and human rights outlined in the guidelines such as forced labour, security and protection, bribery and more.
At the closing of the sessions, Hanrui Cobalt reported that the goal of the training had been achieved and that suppliers now recognise its policy of responsible cobalt sourcing, as well as their own obligations in supporting responsible cobalt supply chain due diligence. The company stated that it plans to carry out the training periodically to continually reinforce its commitment.
