Halla Stackpole expands into China
August 28, 2011
Halla Stackpole Corp. is a joint venture, established in 2008, between the former Powder Metallurgy business of Saeron Automotive Corp. based in Korea, and the Stackpole Corp. based in Toronto, Canada, to produce a range of automotive engine and transmission PM parts, PM parts for shock absorbers, and PM parts for air conditioners. A new PM plant, having 16,225 m2 of manufacturing space, was established by the joint venture in Ohchang, Cheongwon-Gun, Korea, in 2008, leaving Saeron to focus on the manufacture of automotive friction products at its plant in Cheonan-Si.
Halla Stackpole has also reported that it commissioned a second PM plant having 6,570 m2 of manufacturing space, late in 2010, in the Miyun Economic Development zone of Beijing, China, to meet demand from the rapidly expanding Chinese automotive industry for PM parts. The business of Stackpole International in Canada was recently purchased by the Sterling Group, a US based private equity investment firm.
