Free webinar to discuss Powder Metallurgy research in microgravity conditions
January 19, 2021
The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) has announced it is hosting a free webinar to discuss a possible research opportunity for Powder Metallurgy in low-earth orbit microgravity conditions. The webinar will take place on January 27, 2021, from 15.00–16.00 CET.
With the increased activity of space agencies and private companies in space, there is a growing number of examples of successful research carried out in microgravity conditions in order to improve industrial processes at ground level, or, in extreme cases, to prepare for possible future low- or reduced-gravity activities. In the past, Powder Metallurgy experiments have been carried out on the International Space Station.
During the one-hour webinar, attendees will have the chance to follow a presentation from Space Commerce Matters LLC (SCM), a US company that is acting as a facilitator to bring technology experiments in low orbit flights. SCM will present the background information on low orbit flights, a few success stories, details on costs and possible funding, and will be ready to answer questions.
The objective is understanding if some PM experiment originated from EPMA members could ‘fly’ in an upcoming low orbit launcher in 2021. The EPMA would assist the project by coordinating the interested parties.
The deadline for registration is January 25, 2021. More information and registration can be accessed here.
