Former ZF CEO named Procurement Chief at Volkswagen

Volkswagen Group will name Stefan Sommer, former Chief Executive Officer of automotive supplier ZF Friedrichshafen AG, as its new Procurement Chief. Sommer will assume the role beginning in January 2019.
Sommer, who departed ZF at the end of 2017, holds a Ph.D. in engineering, specialising in automation. He began his professional career in 1994 as a development engineer at ITT Automotive Group Europe GmbH. In 1997 he moved to Continental Automotive Systems as Director Electronics & Sensor Development. After occupying several positions in the Continental Group, the last of which being Senior Vice President EBS Customer Center, he was appointed to the Board of Directors at ZF Sachs AG, taking charge of the suspension division.
In 2010 Sommer became a member of the Board of Management of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, with responsibility for materials management. Sommer was named Deputy Chief Executive Officer in January 2012, and served as Chief Executive Officer from May 2012 until the end of 2017.
As Volkswagen’s Procurement Chief, Sommer will succeed Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, whose departure was announced in April 2018.
