Elmet Technologies, reported to be the only US-owned, fully integrated tungsten and molybdenum manufacturer, has welcomed US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy, the Honorable Dr Laura D Taylor-Kale and her delegation to its facility in Lewiston, Maine, USA. The Elmet team showcased recent capital, machining, manufacturing and workforce investments during a tour of its 19,500 m2 facility.

Elmet stated that the investments were made to support ongoing US Department of Defense (DoD) initiatives, as well as current capital projects aimed at further bolstering the US industrial base and DoD programmes. Many of these initiatives have already enhanced the resilience, capabilities, and competitiveness of the US industrial base, it was added.

Founded in 1929, Elmet Technologies has been manufacturing a wide range of tungsten and molybdenum products for its partners and customers in defence, aerospace, medical, semiconductor, furnace, solar, energy, thin film, and coating industries for ninety-four years.

Elmet added that with support from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy, it has made significant advancements in specialised materials and processes for future applications being developed for the armed services. Additionally, it has improved the resiliency of the domestic tungsten supply chain, while manufacturing and introducing enhanced products to the market that instill confidence in the platform provided to the warfighter.
