Dynamet Technology, Inc., Burlington, Mass, USA, has announced that it has received AS9100C certification, including all of the requirements for ISO9001:2008, for manufacture of titanium powder metal products.

AS9100 is a widely adopted and standardised quality management system for the aerospace industry. The latest revision, AS9100C fully incorporates the entirety of ISO9001:2008 while adding further requirements relating to quality and safety.

The certification was issued on April 29, 2013 after successful completion of the quality system audit performed by TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc., an accredited third-party certification company. “I am very proud of the commitment of our organisation for this significant accomplishment” stated Susan Abkowitz, COO/VP Technology at Dynamet.

Major aerospace and defence manufacturers worldwide require AS9100 certification from their suppliers as a condition for their contracts. Dynamet Technology had previously announced its approval by Boeing Commercial Aircraft as a qualified supplier for PM titanium alloy products after an extensive evaluation of Dynamet’s PM Ti-6Al-4V alloy product and development of a Boeing Materials Specification for this material.

Abkowitz also reported that the American Society of Testing Materials has just issued ASTM B988−13 Standard Specification for Powder Metallurgy (PM) Titanium and Titanium Alloy Structural Components. PM titanium products can be produced directly to near net shape, enabling both reduced cost and leadtime for manufacture of titanium products. The release of this new standard will facilitate wider adoption of Dynamet’s titanium powder metal product as an alternative to conventional titanium materials routinely procured to ASTM B348.
