Dr Gopal Shankar Upadhyaya, formerly Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), and author of papers and books covering a wide range of metallurgical topics, has published a new book entitled Fifty Years in Powder Metallurgy. The short book offers a summary of Upadhayaya’s fifty years as a professional in the field of Powder Metallurgy, through both teaching and research at various global PM centres.
In his introduction, the author states that the publication of the book is the fulfilment of a “promise given to my colleagues and past research students that I shall share my reflections.” The book is divided into sections on:
  • Participation in various conferences in India and abroad
  • The organisation of national and international PM conferences
  • Visits to foreign and Indian PM plants
  • The organisation of courses in PM
  • Publications
  • The establishment of endowments at IITK
  • The formation of the Asian PM Industries Federation
“Powder Metallurgy is a growing science and technology and includes practically all types of materials in particulate form. It offers contrary properties right from high porosity to high density to engineering products,” explains Upadhayaya. “My journey has been a challenging one, meeting personalities with different sets of opinions.”
Fifty Years in Powder Metallurgy is available on request from Dr Upadhyaya by email ([email protected]).
