In 2011 the Chinese auto market grew to around 18 million units, up from 13 million in 2009. It is predicted that the sales of cars will surpass 20 million in 2012. The Chinese auto market is now the world’s largest, however foreign companies control the majority of the market with Chinese manufacturers accounting for only 25%.
- The city of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, has with GM and Geely, two vehicle manufacturing bases. Vehicle production is expected to exceed 4 million next year, with production capacity increasing by 600,000 units in the near future. There are more than 3,000 auto parts manufacturers, with an industrial output value of 50 billion RMB, in Ningbo which is fast becoming a world-class automobile and auto parts manufacturing base.
- From January to July 2011, the production output and sales of cars in China were both over 10 million RMB. Output increased by 2.33% while the sales increased by 3.22%.
- The opening ceremony of the New Energy Automobile Research Institute in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province has taken place with the launch of six new projects. The six projects will bring revolutionary changes to the renewable energy vehicle market in China.
- In Wuhan, Hebei Province, an automobile and auto parts testing base has been established with a total investment of 278 million RMB.

- The city of Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, will build China’s largest domestic carbide precision tools industrial park. The industrial park will cover an area of 1000 acres and will be finished in 2016. After completion, annual sales are expected to be over 60 billion RMB, with a profit of 500 million RMB.
- China has become the largest producer of Ti dioxide. During 2011 the price for dioxide continuously increased in China.
- Xiangxi, Hunan is expected to become the best-equipped, largest, and the most innovative industrial base for manganese processing.

- The Powder Metallurgy Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Union (SATIPM) was established in Beijing in October 2010. SATIPM is the union of all PM associations and organisations in China.
