ALD Vacuum Technologies, Hanau, Germany, has launched ‘ALD Expert Access’, an app for devices running Apple iOS and Google Android, that offers users rapid access to a range of tools reported to be useful for everyday operations in the fields of metallurgy and heat treatment.

For those in the fields of production, maintenance and purchasing, the app features three modules which can offer substantial time savings during maintenance work and spare parts ordering:

  • ALD Expert Eye offers access to the ALD Expert Eye WebClient in the browser, for audio-visual support over the internet. Rapid assistance is available for issues such as maintenance activities or questions regarding the operation of equipment. During the online session, the ALD expert receives visual information from the user’s video camera (e.g. smartphone or smart glasses).
  • ALD Webshop offers access the ALD Webshop in the browser. Here, registered customers can find the right spare and replacement parts (and consumables) for their ALD machines, generate offers and trigger purchase orders.
  • QR-Code Scan enables special QR codes on ALD equipment to be scanned using the smartphone camera. This function accesses the ALD Webshop, where the relevant part is displayed.

The app also features the ALD Unit Expert module, designed to make possible the fast calculation and conversion of values and physical units into relevant units such as mass, length, area, volume, pressure, density, temperature, energy, capacity, gas law and leak rate.

In future, the company stated that it expects to expand the scope of the app with the addition of further modules. The app is available to download via the Apple Store and Google Play.
