3D Systems has announced the launch of an integrated scanner and software package for professional scan-based design and quality inspection. The company’s Geomagic Capture® system offers an instant scan-to-CAD option as well as metrological scanning for labs and QC departments.

With the use of Geomagic Capture, designers and engineers can for the first time instantly incorporate real world objects into CAD at their desktop, states the company. The ultra-compact scanner uses state-of-the-art blue LED technology to capture almost one million points in 0.3 seconds to create detailed models of physical objects, accurate to 0.060-0.118 mm.

The company plans to exhibit its entire Geomagic Capture range at EuroMold 2013, December 3-6, in Frankfurt, Germany, and will commence commercial shipments the same week. Geomagic Capture is available in six configurations including plug-in options for SolidWorks, SpaceClaim®, Design X, Design Direct, Control and Verify software packages.

Systems range in price from $14,900 to $24,900 and each package includes the company’s compact, ultra-precise, blue light LED scanner which directly integrates with the software.
