2008 International Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards Competition announced

October 9, 2007

The Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF) has opened the 2008 International PM Design Excellence Awards Competition. The competition recognizes outstanding achievements in the commercial production of powder metallurgy (PM) and metal injection moulded (MIM) components.

Entries in each category (automotive, aerospace, lawn and garden/off-highway, industrial motors/controls and hydraulics, hardware/appliances, medical/dental, and electronic/electrical) are eligible for a grand prize and awards of distinction.

PM and MIM parts manufacturers from North America and overseas that are members of the Metal Powder Industries Federation and their customers may submit entries. Judging guidelines are based on design configuration, engineering properties and promotional value to the PM industry.

Winners will be announced at an awards luncheon at 2008 World Congress on Powder Metallurgy amp; Particulate Materials, June 8–12, Washington, DC.

Entries must be received no later than January 31, 2008. For entry forms contact MPIF at 105 College Road East, Princeton, New Jersey 08540-6692; (609) 452-7700; Fax (609) 987-8523; E-mail [email protected].

Powder Metallurgy: The original net-shape production process

Powder Metallurgy components are relied upon by a wide variety of manufacturing industries, from automotive to power tools, household appliances, chemical engineering, filtration and more.

The main reason for the technology’s success is its cost-effectiveness at producing high volumes of net-shape components, combined with its ability to allow the manufacture of products that, because of the production processes, simply cannot be manufactured by other methods.

To discover more about how the technology has revolutionised component production, browse our Introduction to Powder Metallurgy.
